It is now illegal to use a hand-held cellular phone when driving, even when you’re in a queue of traffic or stopped at traffic lights. This includes making or receiving calls, text messages or accessing the Internet. Doing so can result in a fixed penalty fine of 30 pounds, rising to a maximum of 1000 pounds (2,500 pounds for drivers of vans, trucks, buses and coaches) if the matter goes to the courtroom.
