Why Its Not Possible to Solve Climate Change Without China
Among the most pressing issues China and the US face is global warming. Orville Schell, a journalist, author and one of the nations top China experts argues that these two countries are the key to solving the climate problem. Schell is a former professor and Dean at the University of California, Berkeleys Graduate School of Journalism and is now the director of the Asia Societys newly established Center on U.S.-China Relations. Fr. an article on …
Fr. an article on the oncoming imminent ice age:
Just what causes the onset of major and minor ice ages remains a mystery. Our knowledge of the mechanisms of climatic change is at least as fragmentary as our data, concedes the National Academy of Sciences report. Not only are the basic scientific questions largely unanswered, but in many cases we do not yet know enough to pose the key questions. {”Newsweek,” Apr. 28, 1975}
Glaciers naturally …
Glaciers naturally moderate water flow. So that it is not all or nothing. This moderation is free of cost. It is one of many such free services provided by nature which we take for granted.
What is also true …
What is also true to say is that we have increased greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, and these increases are not negligible.
CO2 has increased ~ 38%
CH4 has increased < 150%
To obfuscate the issue by compairing these increases to the water vapor content of the atmosphere, or to throw sand in our eyes by compairing human emisions to the fluxs of the carbon cycle, is deceptive.
For a general overview see Spencer Weart’s book or his web page at the American Inst. of Physics.
Also of interest is …
Also of interest is the paper:
“the ice-core record: climate sensitivity and future greenhouse warming.”
Apart from delving into the thermodynamics of the atmosphere an understanding of the expected magnitude of changes in global temperature can be given by compairing the changes prompted by previous changes in GHGs with those in play now. While taking into acount the lack of Milankovitch focing at this time.
The queston of what …
The queston of what the siginificance of various carbon levels in the atmosphere is an interesting one. But noting that levels have been higher during the Cretaceous period is not the same as saying that our civilization would prosper under those conditions.
A discusion of the timing of carbon increases & decreases during the glacial & de-glaciations during out ice age is given in Nicolas Caillon’s paper:
“Timing of atmospheric CO2 and Antarctic temperature changes across termination III”
“Please disprove my …
“Please disprove my statements or you are just fear mongering for the elite propaganda.”
Is that propaganda of the elite? Or the elite (best) propaganda?
You math is misleading. No doubt you are compairing water vapor with the the various human caused emisions. This is missleading because by warming the planet we have not increased relative humidity, but we have effected absolute humidity. Which is an important distinction.
Did this guy decide …
Did this guy decide it’s more interesting to think about climate change than China?
Man made global …
Man made global warming gasses make up about 0.0015% of the total global warming materials in the earths atmosphere. How is that enough to make a difference. We have historical records that show more carbon in the atmosphere then we could add even if we doubled our man made emissions. I fail to see how we are causing anything. In fact increases of carbon always follows warming and not the other way around. Please disprove my statements or you are just fear mongering for the elite propaganda.
What will happen to …
What will happen to those rivers if the Tibetan glaciers melt away? There will still be yearly rainfall right? I hope that would be enough to keep them flowing enough.
