Taken in Beijing in 2006. This ancient Chinese art is a secret, only passed down through families and from master to apprentice. Can you figure it out?

    Actually, when i was in china, i took my HD camera and played it back VeRY VERY slowly and surprisingly, even then, it seemed like he could change his mask at an instant. Its a secret that we just might never know : )

    Actually, I’ve seen and held a few of these masks that these face changers use and they’re actually very hard and there is absolutely no string whatsoever. I think that would be pretty hard to pull down his neck without making it obvious. It should be very complex and not easy to reveal if its a long-kept secret : )

    I’ve seen one that …
    I’ve seen one that changes while you’re looking at him…like he has the mask and then without moving, his real face appears…it’s like if you blink, you completely miss the transition. I think it would be SO cool to learn this. I heard Andy Lau convinced one of the people to teach him a little (at least I think it was him).

    Er, forgot to …
    Er, forgot to mention: strings from the bottom of the mask go down down his neck and through his shirt, coming out around his back. He reaches back and pull the string for the mask he’s wearing. At least, that’s how he’s doing. Others have done it without having to do that, using other techniques. Some are truly amazing but not this one. I like the ones that show their real face, then switch to a mask.

    Pause it after a mask change. Then go before the mask change. Look for a hand behind the back. That jerking, when the mask is changed, is caused by the hand at the back moving. Man, that was hard. I can see why this was a secret for so long. ::-) 王变脸没有披风，这是因为他是了变脸的王 ;)

    i beleiev the masks …
    i beleiev the masks are made out of some kind of elastic material such as nylon or something along the lines of nylon. but my guess is that these people have layers of this painted nylon pulled over their face from underneath their shirt. so when this guy nods his head the right way, the material very quickly gets pulled underneath the shirt. if you pause and unpause the video very quickly at the 1:57 mark you can make it slow motion and kinda see the mask get pulled down.

    I believe I found the concept to this illusion. The only thing i’ll say is : Its not his cape, or hat.

    Of course I could be wrong, but I’ll have to test my theory by actually trying this myself.

    does anyone notice how he opens his cape thingy everytime he changes a mask even when he does the nod like somehow hes throwing them into some kinda hole in his cape and then dances around with it like hes pushing them in the back of him lol
