How can I officially report counterfeit goods sold in China to the Chinese authorities?
January 18th, 2010 | by admin |BSherman makes a strong case about counterdeit goods being a problem in China at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091221185005AAqKxtL
How can I report crooked Chinese shop owners, who illegally sell counterfeit goods, to the authorities so that they face the full effect of the Chinese law and hopefully track it back to the source.
You’re funny. There are three types of goods in China, Originals, half-originals (that’s the direct translation) and pirated. The originals are usually a little more expensive in China than it would be normally in another country because for some stupid reason, China has to pay extra tax for it even if it’s made here. That’s why China created "half" originals; good quality copies. Then there are the pirated/ fakes which are usually low quality goods, the ones where even a blind person would know it’s a fake.
If the government/authorities didn’t allow something, it wouldn’t be seen or heard of- that simple. If you see piracy widespread in China, it’s because even if there are laws against it, it’s just a formality but that’s it.
You can’t really do anything about the counterfeit goods. China’s economy is booming, they’re not going to stop for you.

China is very serious about stopping pirated goods, just as they are serious about cleaning-up the environment.
Sorry, the complaint department is closed, due to a nationwide manpower shortage.

I saw a gorgeous Coach bag today in my city for only 70 yuan (before bargaining). We are nowhere near any of the factories and this was the only one of its kind in the shop. I was verrrrryyyyyyy tempted to buy it, but it wasn’t quite the right style for me. I could have probably bargained down to 40 or 45 yuan.
This is a brand new market near the new government buildings going up in my district. They are trying to sell upscale items for the government employees and their families. I could probably walk over to a government office and try to file a report, but they would probably just laugh me back to my home and tell me to go shopping somewhere else!

They’ve advertised a phone no. during the Olympics, I vaguely recall the ad while I was there last summer but have no recollection of the no. Doubt cosmetic jobs would bring any real effects though. On the main roads, major shoppings of the Capital, herds of tourists can easily buy whatever brands they like, does anyone so naive to believe that no senior officials in all respective depts know anything about this? Or the undertable is too vast to be seen.
One of my friend’s office was recently inspected by some officials…………….the story is so common, I’ll let readers to fill in the gap.

Its funny that "Santa’s Mistress" went by her correct name "Potato Brain" yesterday but changed her name. That name suited so well on her.
Coming to your question, you must be kidding. Why would China forgo its greatest advantage on which it has created the economic boom. We copy everything and anything and then market it at the lowest cost, cutting competition by as much as 75%.
Forget reporting. Even if your report is registered, nothing will be done any further. The only key advantage we have is "low cost advantage" and we will do everything to retain it.

I understand your concern, and this has been a problem for as long as China has become the world’s factory. In order to eradicate the problem, I think more people should report to the companies whose products are counterfeited. It’s only when these companies take legal action against China that something would be done. Local Chinese authorities COULD be getting a cut of the profit from these sales.

On a good day, you get what you pay for. Everything else is made in China.
