It’s not about the tennis ball
Trying to play sophisticated can give you an edge. Developing a knack for taking advantage of exactly what the other players do badly is really a skill that should be developed because your opponents are always different. Which means that you can not just play the game as usual. You must grow to be an engaged observer through the match to identify what to assault. To be able to capitalize on these types of weaknesses you must 1st uncover them.
Start out with the easiest of all things to attack. Which stroke is superior, the forehand or backhand? Are they equivalent? Once you discover a weakened side of a player it will be your job to hit your shots to that side with frequency. If your opponent is specially weak on one side you’ll be able to hit it to the fragile area basically every time! Literally hit the tennis ball to his backhand side almost every single chance you get. Why not take the pressure off of the need to hit winners yourself when all you have to do is get the ball in play to the weak side and await a mistake?
